So, What Do You Eat? EVERYTHING but junk!

I am trying to only blog on Tuesdays BUT this question keeps coming up!  We eat what MOST people eat minus the junk.  Tacos, meatloaf, chicken dishes, pork, steak, burgers, fish, pizza (minus the cheese for us), all fruit, veggies, and nuts/seeds.  Even bakery like items! I just use almond or coconut flour which is SO healhty and yummy!

We snack on fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. There are SO MANY of these foods to choose from! Way more options then with processed boxed up snacks that make you sick!
The bottom line in making positive health changes is to stop buying the crap and replace it with the healthy choices above. If you don't have it in the house, you won't eat it! Its that simple. You will notice the change because your body USES the healthy snacks, versus working overtime to ELIMINATE the processed junk. Your body does NOT use processed junk, and that is why over time it causes so many illnesses. Too many to list here.

Here is an example of what we eat.  Instead of using a packet LOADED with chemicals and preservatives to season my tacos, I use organic seasonings.  The same seasonings in the packets minus the chemicals etc...
This goes for all recipes. Its really that simple.  As a result, my body will USE the tacos for nourishment versus spending time trying so hard to "process" the chemicals.

Here is an AMAZING BBQ Chicken Crock Pot recipe:
* Most BBQ sauces are junk! So I easily make my own! You can taste the difference!

1 pack of Trader Joes Organic Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts (or more depending on your family size)
1 1/2 cups of Organic Chicken Broth (I make my own, its so simple to make!  If you want to buy it, Trader Joes has a good one, although once you make your own, you can taste the difference in the broth!)
1 small can of organic tomato sauce
2-3 cloves of garlic diced up (depending on how much you like garlic) In a pinch use organic garlic powder
1 TBSP of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tsp of dry mustard
1 tsp of Tamari
Salt and Pepper to taste
Cook on LOW for 6-8 hours. YUM!

*for ALL my recipes measurements are approximate.  IF you like more juice and sauce, add more broth. If you like it spicy, add more pepper. If you like garlic, add more etc... really! Don't be afraid! :)

Another SIMPLE recipe I just came across from my like minded friend Sarah!
Sweet Potato Fries! YUM!

You have to check out this site!

  • 1 large sweet potato
  • 1-2 tbsp egg whites or Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or a little of both!)
  • 1-2 tbsp of your favorite herbs and spices (The variety here is endless!  Add your favorite herbs and spices and mix and match the flavors.  I made 2 batches…one with just plain sea salt for my kids and one with garlic salt for myself.)
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Start by using a vegetable peeler and remove the skin from the potato.  Once the skin is removed you want to cut  your potato into 1/2 inch thick sticks.  It’s important that all the sticks be the same thickness to ensure they cook evenly.
  3. Place the sticks in a large bowl or plastic bag and add egg whites or Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  Stir to evenly coat.
  4. Add the herbs and spices to the sticks and mix well.
  5. Place the sticks on a baking sheet (I like to line mine with non stick foil for easy clean up).  Spread the sticks on the sheet and make sure they are not overlapping.
  6. Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.  Take out of the oven and flip the sticks over and return to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the fries are brown and crisp.
  7. After baking remove the fries from the oven and let them cool for about 5 minutes.  Serve immediately!  ENJOY!

On that note, this is a typical side, IF we do a side like this. Most of the time our sides are veggie based (or occasional fruit).  We don't do the typical potato, pasta, bread, rice, corn side.  This is how to keep the weight OFF ladies! Once in a while, IF you are healthy, it is fine. Everyday, it wreaks havoc on your body!  As soon as I decreased consuming these foods, I dropped 10 pounds fast!  I don't have those terrible carb cravings anymore like I used to. My blood sugar levels remain balanced throughout the day.  I feel great!

Do you EAT your cosmetics? OF COURSE YOU DO!

This was a piece of my journey that I learned early on and made changes right away! What I researched startled me! What I found out is that MOST popular brands of laundry detergent, shampoo's/conditioner's, deodorant, soaps, toothpaste, make up, hair color, skin care, etc... contain harmful toxic ingredients that cause SO many health related problems including cancer, reproductive issues and promotes major brain toxicities!  Remember, anything you put on your skin can be absorbed into your blood stream!
The BEST web site to check whether or not your are using toxic products is:
So, please, do it now, check out this site, you will be FLOORED!
So what do you use? Check the site but food can be used for a variety of things! #1 right now is Coconut Oil on our skin and lips! Its amazing! And works better then anything over the counter!
For deodorizers, I use my favorite essential oils mixed with water! SIMPLE and so cost effective!
So do it, check out the site! :) It' so eye opening!

This may seem like a simple recipe but it is packed with power house nutrients!

Greens of your choice
Shaved carrot (for something a bit different looking.  Just use a potato peeler)
Red onion
Red, Yellow and Green Bell Peppers
Raw Sunflower Seeds (Trader Joes)

Organic Olive Oil (Trader Joes/Walmart)
Edens Selected Red Wine Vinegar (Whole Foods or health food store)
Bragg's Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (Whole foods or health food store)
I just sprinkle this on my salad but you could put in a bowl and mix together.
**add FRESH garlic too if you want!

Sprinkle with Celtic Salt and Pepper.  Did you ever do this to your salad? I can't believe what a little celtic salt and pepper do for a salad!

If you eat meat, add chicken or steak. AMAZING! So simple, but amazing salad!

Cilantro is known to be rich in phytonutrients, flavonoids and active phenolic acid compounds, all of which are good for you. There are no definitive studies on cilantro but many believe that it and the seeds (often called coriander), have been found to help control blood sugar, lower cholesterol and fight inflammation and free radicals. There is further speculations that cilantro may also have antimicrobial properties.
As an antioxidant cilantro is able to help reduce inflammation. In this capacity it fights free radicals that destroy cellular structure.
There is also considerable literature speculating that cilantro may be an effective chellation therapy for people who have excess mercury in their systems. Some think that mercury poisoning could be the result of metallic teeth fillings. Every time a person with fillings chews, the fillings release minute amounts of mercury gas that may be breathed into the system (swallowing mercury is actually far less toxic than breathing it). Of course, this is all speculative and disputed. Nevertheless, many people who have suffered from mercury poisoning and the "brain cloud" it causes have reported fairly rapid relief by the consistent consumption of cilantro over a period of just a few weeks.
Cilantro is also reported to deal effectively with other metals in the system. Consumption of about two teaspoons of cilantro pesto daily for three or four weeks may have beneficial effects.
Cilantro oil (derived from cilantro) has a positive effect the inner digestive tract of most people. It assists the digestive system in production of digestive enzymes that stimulate digestion through a process called peristaltic motion.

TOP 3 Begginer Books to "begin" reading, well, NOW! Pretty Please...

1. "Makers Diet" by Jordan Rubin
This is a fantastic story like book about this man's journey to health. I can't say enough about the content in this book! This was one of the first books I read on my health journey--I couldn't put it down! I refer back to it often (it contains recipes too). If you want to kick start your health journey, his diet plan to "detox" is PHENOMENAL! (And how I lost those last 10 stubborn pounds my body would NOT let go!)

2. Dr Kenneth Bock's Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies

3. "Gut and Psychology Syndrome" by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride M.D.
I read this early on and it was a little much. However, there is a time and place for this AMAZING book filled with SO MUCH technical, important information!  It addresses Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, ADD/HD, Depression, Schizophrenia,  and a WHOLE bunch of other diet related illnesses and disease.

There are MANY others! For sure not just "3"
1. Dr Mark Hyman's " Blood Sugar Solution"
2. Sally Fallon's  "Nourishing Traditions"
If you choose to begin reading, please let me know what you think! I would love to hear from you!

Are YOU sick???

Everywhere I turn people are telling me how sick they are the past few weeks! I mean everywhere!

We are NOT sick... a coincidence? No, not at all.

However, just 3 years ago, that WAS Calei and I. 100%. All the time. (I spent my whole life ALWAYS SICK!)
I purposely saved a calendar I had from when Calei was 3.  We had just changed our diet to Gluten (wheat) and dairy free. However, we went from no wheat and dairy, to processed gluten/dairy free JUNK food.  Needless to say, we didn't see many health benefits to this diet change.  In fact, the reason I saved this calendar is because from September to about May Calei and I were sick EVERY OTHER WEEK! I would use a highlighter  in my calendar to indicate who was sick when.  This was astonishing to me!  The following year is when we made more appropriate diet changes and began the REAL food journey. From that point forward, we saw dramatic changes!

I learned being "sick" is NOT normal! Say it with me! BEING SICK IS NOT NORMAL!
Sickness is a signal from your body that it cannot work right to fight off disease and infection.  Why can't it  work right? Well, I am assuming you know this answer without me showing you a mirror!

IF Calei and I do get sick, and that is a BIG "IF", its a 24 hour thing and I know how to treat the sickness.  We do not medicate.  We nourish our bodies.  We allow fevers to do their job. (no, we dont let our fevers get out of control but when you have a nourished body, fevers do their job and fight off the virus/infection)

1. We do not consume sugar BUT if you still eat sugar (sugar is in everything!) as soon as you get a sniffle, stop.
2. Vitamin D3-mega dose
3. Homemade chicken broth
This is SO EASY to make! Buy an Organic Whole Chicken from Trader Joes/Whole Foods...cook it to eat.
Put the carcass in a large pot with carrots, onion, celery, salt, pepper, parsley, a splash of raw organic apple cider vinegar and a hunk of Ginger (key ingredient in my opinion).  Cook all day on simmer.
I use ice cube trays and freeze my broth.  Once frozen I pop out the broth cubes and put in a baggie for later use.
DO NOT cook broth in the microwave. All health benefits are zapped out, literally! Just put a few cubes in a pot and heat up. It doesn't take THAT long!
4. Water, lots and lots of water!
5. Increase probiotics

It is crucial that if you are already sick, or getting sick, to eat clean, OR be prepared to be sick. Its that simple. Your body cannot work to fight virus's or infections without proper nutrition. It will shut down.

Knock on wood, I have NOT had a cold etc.. Its AMAZING! I wouldn't go back to my old life style EVER!

I LOVE hearing from you! Your comments, your journey, you questions, etc.. PLEASE post if you can!!!! :)

ALSO, if you are making changes keep a journal. Small changes add up to BIG changes over time. Keep track of your progress! If you slip, go back to reading your journal. Journaling is HUGE in this process. Write down what you learn as it can be overwhelming at times! There is a LOT to learn, but its fun, all positive and life changing!

Have a HEALTHY week!
