So, What Do You Eat? EVERYTHING but junk!

I am trying to only blog on Tuesdays BUT this question keeps coming up!  We eat what MOST people eat minus the junk.  Tacos, meatloaf, chicken dishes, pork, steak, burgers, fish, pizza (minus the cheese for us), all fruit, veggies, and nuts/seeds.  Even bakery like items! I just use almond or coconut flour which is SO healhty and yummy!

We snack on fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. There are SO MANY of these foods to choose from! Way more options then with processed boxed up snacks that make you sick!
The bottom line in making positive health changes is to stop buying the crap and replace it with the healthy choices above. If you don't have it in the house, you won't eat it! Its that simple. You will notice the change because your body USES the healthy snacks, versus working overtime to ELIMINATE the processed junk. Your body does NOT use processed junk, and that is why over time it causes so many illnesses. Too many to list here.

Here is an example of what we eat.  Instead of using a packet LOADED with chemicals and preservatives to season my tacos, I use organic seasonings.  The same seasonings in the packets minus the chemicals etc...
This goes for all recipes. Its really that simple.  As a result, my body will USE the tacos for nourishment versus spending time trying so hard to "process" the chemicals.

Here is an AMAZING BBQ Chicken Crock Pot recipe:
* Most BBQ sauces are junk! So I easily make my own! You can taste the difference!

1 pack of Trader Joes Organic Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts (or more depending on your family size)
1 1/2 cups of Organic Chicken Broth (I make my own, its so simple to make!  If you want to buy it, Trader Joes has a good one, although once you make your own, you can taste the difference in the broth!)
1 small can of organic tomato sauce
2-3 cloves of garlic diced up (depending on how much you like garlic) In a pinch use organic garlic powder
1 TBSP of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tsp of dry mustard
1 tsp of Tamari
Salt and Pepper to taste
Cook on LOW for 6-8 hours. YUM!

*for ALL my recipes measurements are approximate.  IF you like more juice and sauce, add more broth. If you like it spicy, add more pepper. If you like garlic, add more etc... really! Don't be afraid! :)

Ingredients:
  • 1 large sweet potato
  • 1-2 tbsp egg whites or Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or a little of both!)
  • 1-2 tbsp of your favorite herbs and spices (The variety here is endless!  Add your favorite herbs and spices and mix and match the flavors.  I made 2 batches…one with just plain sea salt for my kids and one with garlic salt for myself.)
Preparation:
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Start by using a vegetable peeler and remove the skin from the potato.  Once the skin is removed you want to cut  your potato into 1/2 inch thick sticks.  It’s important that all the sticks be the same thickness to ensure they cook evenly.
  3. Place the sticks in a large bowl or plastic bag and add egg whites or Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  Stir to evenly coat.
  4. Add the herbs and spices to the sticks and mix well.
  5. Place the sticks on a baking sheet (I like to line mine with non stick foil for easy clean up).  Spread the sticks on the sheet and make sure they are not overlapping.
  6. Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.  Take out of the oven and flip the sticks over and return to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the fries are brown and crisp.
  7. After baking remove the fries from the oven and let them cool for about 5 minutes.  Serve immediately!  ENJOY!

On that note, this is a typical side, IF we do a side like this. Most of the time our sides are veggie based (or occasional fruit).  We don't do the typical potato, pasta, bread, rice, corn side.  This is how to keep the weight OFF ladies! Once in a while, IF you are healthy, it is fine. Everyday, it wreaks havoc on your body!  As soon as I decreased consuming these foods, I dropped 10 pounds fast!  I don't have those terrible carb cravings anymore like I used to. My blood sugar levels remain balanced throughout the day.  I feel great!

Have to share that we love sweet potato "fries" and make them all the time! Our favorite way it to dice the potato up into cubes and bake it with coconut oil. Once cooked, an extra minute under the broiler crisps them up. A little celtic sea salt on top and they're done! These are a huge hit with everyone I serve them to!
